Después de un trabajo de oficina, la fotografía me ha permitido reencontrarme con la creatividad y la poesía que guardaba dentro de mí. Tomarme la fotografía en serio ha sido como redescubrir al niño interior, eliminando los filtros y las pretensiones que todos desarrollamos como adultos.
Experimentar la vida con una cámara crea esta hiperconciencia que te hace conectar con tu entorno y con lo que te rodea de una manera única. En otras palabras, sin la cámara y esta obsesión constante por "encontrar" imágenes, muchas cosas existirían y se irían sin que yo me diera cuenta, perdiendo el sentido de lo que significa estar vivo. Vivimos en un mundo en el que siempre nos roban la atención y en el que siempre se espera que estemos "ocupados". La cámara es la forma perfecta de escapar de esa maldición de la vida moderna.

After a career in an office, photography has been my portal back into creativity and poetry which had been educated out of me. Taking my photography seriously, has been akin to rediscovering the child in me, by removing the filters and pretence which we all develop as adults.
Experiencing life with a camera creates this hyperawareness which makes you connect with your environment and surrounding in a unique way. In other words, without the camera and this constant obsession to “find” pictures, a lot of things would exist and go without me even noticing, missing the point of what it means to be alive. We live in a world where our attention is always stolen and where we are always expected to be “busy”. The camera is the perfect way for me to escape that curse of the modern life.
La fotografía es una forma de conectar con mis hijos de una manera única. Al emprender el proyecto "Rock, Paper, Scissors", el libro que hice sobre mis dos hijos sobre el paisaje en el que crecimos, me di cuenta de que la idea del paisaje es muy importante para mí y que hacia allí evoluciona mi fotografía. Los seres humanos hemos destruido el planeta y es algo que parece suceder a un ritmo vertiginoso en los últimos 50 años y solo si nos damos cuenta de lo que aún podemos salvar conseguiremos que la gente tenga esperanza y, por tanto, actúe. Me gustaría utilizar la fotografía para contribuir a ese mensaje, desde mi humilde posición.
A menudo me sorprendo como fotógrafo, cuando vuelvo a mirar ciertas fotografías. Lo importante es sentir algo en el momento de pulsar el obturador, reaccionar ante el entorno de una manera que nos haga sentir humanos. Un lugar, un estado de ánimo o una luz determinadas nos hacen sentir emociones y, al reaccionar a ello y hacer fotos, creamos algo que, a su vez, hará que otra persona sienta algo. Este sentimiento puede ser, por supuesto, diferente al que yo sentí al pulsar el obturador. Pero al hacer esto, se crea una especie de cadena de reacciones entre el mundo, tu mismo y tu público. Y esto, para mí, hace que la fotografía sea única. Elijo el blanco y negro porque para mí, es la mejor manera de transmitir todo esto.

Photography has also been a way to connect with my children in a way which I would never have otherwise, through the making of “Rock, Paper, Scissors”, the book I made about my two boys and the landscape in which we evolve. The idea of the landscape is very important to me and this is towards it that my photography is evolving. We humans have been destroying the planet and the living at pace in the last 50 years and it is only by first realising what we can still save that we will get people to hope and therefore to act. I would like to use photography to contribute to that message, at my tiny level.
What makes me tick in photography is the poetry, the suggestion, the mystery that can come out of good image. Often it comes as a surprise to me as a photographer, often when I look back at the pictures. The important is to feel something at the moment when you press the shutter, react to the environment in a way that makes us feel human. A particular, place, mood or light make us feel emotions and by reacting to this and making pictures, we create something which in turn will make somebody else feel something. This feeling might of course be different to the one I felt when I pressed the shutter. But by doing this you create a sort of chain of reactions between the world, yourself and your audience. And this for me makes photography unique. Black and white is the best way to convey all of this.
