Para mí, la fotografía es un medio para comprender la realidad en todos sus aspectos, desde lo terrenal hasta lo espiritual, y al mismo tiempo es una forma de expresar.
Me fascina la intimidad de las personas, encuentro que la intimidad es algo maravilloso. En la intimidad descubres la singularidad de cada vida humana. Afortunadamente, el otro siempre me sorprende. La maravilla es lo que impulsa mi fotografía.
Por supuesto, para poder retratar la intimidad hace falta tiempo, todos mis proyectos llevan años. Me gusta sumergirme en los contextos y comunidades que retrato. Los he visitado muchas veces y a menudo no he hecho fotos. Para mí es importante crear una relación con los sujetos. Les he contado mi vida y ellos han hecho lo mismo.
Me gusta hablar de comunidades y contextos que, a pesar de sufrir problemas sociales, mantienen una fuerte identidad y representan una forma de resistencia a la superficialidad y homologación de la sociedad contemporánea.
Mis imágenes son un relato silencioso. No quiero escandalizar ni juzgar, sino hacer reflexionar al espectador sobre la existencia humana.

For me, photography is a means to understand reality in all its aspects, from the earthly to the spiritual, and at the same time, it is a way to express. I am fascinated by the intimacy of people; I find intimacy to be something wonderful. In intimacy, you discover the uniqueness of every human life. Fortunately, the other always surprises me. Wonder is what drives my photography. Of course, to be able to portray intimacy takes time; all my projects take years. I like to immerse myself in the contexts and communities I portray. I have visited them many times and often did not take pictures. It is important for me to create a relationship with the subjects. I told them about my life, and they did the same. I like to tell about communities and contexts that maintain a strong identity while experiencing social problems and represent a form of resistance to the superficiality and homologation of contemporary society. The faces and the gestures preserve an enormous and universal power in such a context. My images are a silent tale. I do not want to shock or judge but to make the viewer reflect on human existence.
Sanità es un retrato de la vida íntima en el Rione Sanità.
Es una carta de amor dedicada a una forma de vida que hemos olvidado y a su autenticidad. Esta autenticidad habla al otro a través del lenguaje corporal, es una voz intensa que nos habla de relaciones profundas y vidas esenciales.
El Rione Sanità, situado en el corazón de Nápoles, es uno de los lugares más densamente poblados de Europa. El barrio, nacido como zona residencial de familias aristocráticas, se ha convertido en uno de los más complejos de Nápoles. El Rione Sanità se desarrolla en una depresión: es una realidad urbana en sí misma, que no es necesario atravesar para desplazarse de un lado a otro de la ciudad. Este aislamiento ha provocado la proliferación de diversos problemas sociales, como el desempleo, el abandono escolar y la presencia de organizaciones delictivas.
En los últimos años se ha producido una gran revalorización de la zona que comenzó, en particular, con la puesta en valor del patrimonio artístico y cultural del barrio. Entre los habitantes del Rione Sanità ha crecido un fuerte sentimiento de pertenencia. El distrito acoge a una vasta humanidad con diferentes orígenes geográficos y diferentes historias personales. Dentro de estas puertas y ventanas se puede encontrar una increíble energía de vida donde preciosas historias cuentan la naturaleza de los seres humanos en la vida cotidiana. En el centro de mi trabajo están los habitantes del barrio y su vida cotidiana suspendida entre el estigma de la marginalidad y los grandes procesos económicos y políticos de gentrificación. El Rione Sanità es soledad y amor, ironía y tragedia, fe y pecado. Los contrastes generan existencias surrealistas. La calle y la casa se funden, lo privado se hace público y lo público esconde los secretos de lo privado. El silencio es un raro regalo para estos callejones, pero en ellos como en una revelación se redescubre el alma desnuda e inmensa de una humanidad olvidada.

This project is a love letter dedicated to a way of living that we have forgotten and to its authenticity. This authenticity speaks to the other through body language; it is an intense voice that tells of deep relationships and essential lives. The Rione Sanità, situated in the heart of Napoli, is one of Europe’s most densely populated places. The district, born as a residential area for aristocratic families, has become one of the most complex in Napoli. The Rione Sanità is developed in a depression: it is an urban reality in itself, which is unnecessary to cross to move from one side of the city to another. This isolation has led to the proliferation of various social problems, such as unemployment, school dropouts and the presence of criminal organizations. In recent years, there has been a great revaluation of the area, which began in particular with the enhancement of the artistic and cultural heritage of the district. A strong sense of belonging has grown among the inhabitants of the Rione Sanità. The district welcomes a vast humanity with different geographical origins and different personal stories. This diversity is a wealth. Inside these doors and windows, you can find an amazing energy of life where precious stories tell the nature of humans in everyday life. At the center of my work are the inhabitants of the district and their daily life suspended between the stigma of marginality and the great economic and political processes of gentrification. The Rione Sanità is solitude, love, irony, tragedy, faith, and sin. The contrasts generate surreal existences. The street and the house merge together, the private becomes public, and the public hides the secrets of the private. Silence is a rare gift for these alleys, but in its revelation, you rediscover the naked and immense soul of a forgotten humanity.
