Vivo la fotografía desde la fascinación por lo visible y la curiosidad por explorar un lenguaje que considero sumamente complejo y frágil.
Emprender un trabajo fotográfico para mí es abrazar la incertidumbre, comenzar un camino que se va definiendo a través de muchas pequeñas decisiones, casi todas ellas tomadas desde la intuición.
Habiendo crecido en un entorno fundamentalmente científico, la fotografía se convirtió en una forma de sumergirme en el proceso emocional de la percepción, de explorar los espacios imprecisos entre lo visible y su interpretación, entre la realidad y la imaginación.
Trabajar en proyectos fotográficos a largo plazo me permite explorar en profundidad capas adicionales de significado y experimentar en la creación de narrativas abiertas que surgen de la secuenciación de varias imágenes.
Al fotografiar siento que me acerco a mí mismo, como si en cierto modo proyectara mi subjetividad sobre el mundo y éste me devolviera imágenes que me sirven de espejo.

I live photography from a fascination for the visible and a curiosity to explore a language that I consider extremely complex and fragile.
For me, undertaking photographic work is to embrace uncertainty, to begin a path that is defined by many small decisions, almost all of them taken from intuition.
Having grown up in a fundamentally scientific environment, photography became a way to immerse myself in the emotional process of perception, to explore the imprecise spaces between the visible and its interpretation, between reality and imagination.
Working on long-term photographic projects allows me to explore additional layers of meaning in depth and experiment with creating open narratives that emerge from the sequencing of several images.
When I photograph, I feel that I am getting closer to myself. I feel as if I am somehow projecting my subjectivity onto the world, and the world gives me back images that serve as a mirror.

Las imágenes de Country Fictions son el resultado de una serie de viajes a diferentes zonas rurales y regiones escasamente pobladas de la Península Ibérica.
Empecé a trabajar en este proyecto en 2011, en una época en la que varios amigos cercanos estaban pensando en mudarse al campo. Tras la gran crisis financiera, la mayoría de nosotros estábamos en la treintena y nos enfrentábamos a un futuro incierto profesional y personal. En este contexto, me enfrenté a la idea de abandonar la ciudad y empezar una nueva vida más cerca de la naturaleza.
Country Fictions es una forma de abordar los sentimientos encontrados que me produjo la idea de dar ese gran paso. Tiene que ver con "querer creer" en una vida mejor, mejor y más sencilla. Las fotografías del proyecto son una construcción muy subjetiva de un lugar entre la realidad y mi imaginación.
Estas imágenes revelan una sutil tensión visual entre el romanticismo y una mirada distante entre una belleza frágil y un fuerte sentimiento de distanciamiento. En cierto modo, Country Fictions es un conflicto interior expresado a través de fotografías.
Este proyecto, como una colección de ensoñaciones, también reflexiona sobre el propio lenguaje fotográfico y cómo nos influyen las representaciones e ideas preconcebidas sobre las utopías rurales.
La ilusión de escapar de la sociedad contemporánea, los mitos y esperanzas construidos en torno a la naturaleza, se unen con la extrañeza y la mirada nostálgica a una vida que quizá nunca llegue a vivir.

The images in Country Fictions are the result of a series of travels to different rural areas and scarcely populated regions of the Iberian Peninsula.
I started to work on this project in 2011, in a time when several close friends were thinking about moving to the countryside.In the aftermath of the great financial crisis most of us were in our 30’s and faced an uncertain future regarding our professional and personal lives. In this context I was confronted with the thought of leaving the city myself and starting a new life closer to nature.
Country fiction is a way of dealing with the mixed feelings brought about by the idea of taking that big step. It has to do with “wanting to believe” in a better, simpler life.
The photographs in the project are a very subjective construction of a place somewhere between reality and my imagination. These images reveal a subtle visual tension between romanticism and a distant gaze, between a fragile beauty and a strong feeling of detachment. In a way, Country Fictions is an inner conflict expressed through photographs.
This project, as a collection of daydreams, also reflects on the language of photography itself, and how we are influenced by previous representations and preconceived ideas about rural utopias.
The illusion of escape from contemporary society, the myths and hopes built around nature, come together with the strangeness and the nostalgic look at a life that I might never live.
