La fotografía llegó a mí en un periodo de mi vida marcado por la incertidumbre y la búsqueda de un propósito, y se transformó rápidamente en mi santuario, mi refugio de inspiración.
Cuando cojo la cámara y capturo momentos a través del objetivo, encuentro, no sólo una forma de arte, sino un medio profundo de autodescubrimiento y autoaceptación.
Siempre me acerco a las personas que quiero retratar con cuidado y paciencia e intento crear una atmósfera en la que la gente se sienta cómoda en mi presencia. Esta atmósfera de confianza es importante para captar los momentos íntimos que busco en mi fotografía.
Sólo a través de esta conexión y el entendimiento mutuo, puedo tener la oportunidad de revelar emociones y expresiones reales.
Para mí, la fotografía es un medio con el que navego por la complejidad de la vida. Es una herramienta para documentar la belleza inherente a cada momento fugaz. Hago fotos para captar la esencia y los matices de lo que está sucediendo ante mí e invito a otros a compartir las emociones y las historias que se desarrollan en la imagen.

Photography came to me at a period in my life marked by uncertainty and a search for purpose, and it quickly became my sanctuary and my refuge of inspiration.
When I pick up the camera and capture moments through the lens, I find it not only an art form but a profound means of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
I always approach the people I want to portray with care and patience and try to create an atmosphere in which people feel comfortable in my presence. This trusting atmosphere is important in order to capture the intimate moments that I seek in my photography.
Only through this connection and mutual understanding I may have the opportunity to reveal real emotions and expressions.
For me, photography is a vessel with which I navigate through the complexity of life. It is a tool to document the beauty inherent in each fleeting moment. I take photos to capture the essence and nuances of what is happening before me and invite others to share the emotions and stories that unfold in the image.
Desde hace tres años, viajo desde Múnich a los asentamientos romaníes de Eslovaquia. Svinia, Secovče y Trebišovson asentamientos informales, situados en las afueras de las ciudades y pueblos de los eslovacos. Como atrapados en cápsulas del tiempo, sus habitantes parecen desconectados del mundo exterior. La mayoría de sus chozas están hechas de tablones de madera reutilizados y carecen de agua corriente o instalaciones sanitarias. Como en ningún otro lugar de la UE, la pobreza, el desempleo, la explotación, la drogadicción y la resignación determinan la vida cotidiana de sus habitantes.
Cuando estoy in situ, lo que los gitanos quieren mostrarme se convierte en el tema de mis escritos y fotografías. Mi deseo es arrancar imágenes poéticas de su situación para mostrar la dignidad del pueblo, pero también quiero llamar la atención de un público más amplio sobre su lucha permanente.
Con cada visita, cada nota y cada foto, me acerco más a los habitantes del asentamiento. Sigo adquiriendo más y más conocimientos sobre este mundo increíblemente aterrador y a la vez conmovedor y cariñoso de los gitanos. Y con el tiempo estos viajes se han convertido en parte integrante de mi propia vida.

For three years, I have been traveling from Munich to Roma settlements in Slovakia. Svinia, Secovče and Trebišov are informal settlements situated on the outskirts of the towns and villages of the Slovakians. As if caught in time capsules, their residents seem disconnected from the outside world. Most of their huts are made of reused wood planks and are lacking running water or sanitary facilities. Like nowhere else in the E.U., poverty, unemployment, exploitation, drug abuse and resignation determine the inhabitants’ daily lives.
When I am on site, whatever the Roma want to show me becomes the subject of my writing and photographing. My wish is to wrest poetic images from their situation in order to show the people’s dignity, but I also want to bring their permanent struggle to the attention of larger audiences.
With every visit and every note, and every picture, I'm getting closer to the settlement’s inhabitants. I continue to gain more and more insights into this unbelievably frightening and yet touching and loving world of the Roma. And eventually these trips have become an integral part of my own life.
