La fuerza motriz de mi fotografía es un interés permanente por la gente, la naturaleza y el lugar en el que vivo, la República de Moldavia. Me interesan la fotografía documental, los lugares remotos, la juventud, la noción de hogar y la relación entre los seres humanos y el entorno en el que viven. Utilizando principalmente película de formato medio en blanco y negro, examino los intercambios personales y universales que se encuentran en los retratos contemporáneos, aunque inspirándome en antiguos maestros del retrato como: August Sander, Diane Arbus, Rosalind Fox Solomon, Peter Hujar. Sólo utilizo luz natural en mis retratos y paisajes. La naturaleza de la luz es muy importante para mí. Siempre pido permiso para fotografiar a la gente. Todavía me da vergüenza pedir permiso a la gente para fotografiarla, pero cuando veo a alguien o algo que me llama la atención me olvido de mi timidez y voy a por ello. Me encanta colaborar con mis sujetos, a veces sucede algo mágico sin palabras. La gente posa de manera cómoda y sincera. La fotografía es una forma de comunicarse con desconocidos. La noción de temporalidad es fundamental en mi proceso de documentar las conexiones y relaciones humanas a medida que se transforman con el tiempo.

The driving force behind my photography is an enduring interest in people, nature, and the place I live in, the Republic of Moldova. I am interested in documentary photography, remote places, youth, the notion of home and the relation between humans and the environment they live in. Mostly utilizing black and white medium format film, I examine the personal and universal exchanges found in contemporary portraits, yet, inspired by old portraits masters such as: August Sander, Diane Arbus, Rosalind Fox Solomon, Peter Hujar. I only use natural light in my portraits and landscapes. The nature of light is very important to me. I always ask permission to photograph people. I am still shy to ask people to photograph them, but when I see someone or something that catches my eye, I forget about my shyness and go for it. I love to collaborate with my subjects; sometimes, something magical happens with no words. People are getting their comfortable and sincere poses. Photography is a way to communicate with strangers. The notion of temporality is central in my process documenting human connections and relationships as they morph over time.
"Homeland" es mi historia personal, de niña mis padres emigraron al extranjero por motivos de trabajo y me dejaron pasar el tiempo con los abuelos en la pintoresca y remota región septentrional de Moldavia. Suelo identificarme con los niños y adolescentes que fotografío. Homeland es mi principal proyecto documental a largo plazo que comencé en 2019 y en el que sigo trabajando. Este proyecto busca las conexiones entre los jóvenes del norte de la República de Moldavia y su paisaje circundante. Viajo mucho por los pueblos, el lugar tranquilo me inspira y la gente de allí, su forma de vida sencilla y natural, su conexión con la tierra y los animales, muchas veces allí me siento de nuevo en la infancia o la adolescencia, siento nostalgia de mi pasado. Mi obra en sí evoca un anhelo nostálgico por la familia, el pasado y, simplemente, la vida misma. Emprendí una búsqueda para encontrar una patria en los rostros de las personas que fotografío. Un tercio de la población de Moldavia ha emigrado, y el número de jóvenes ciudadanos que se marchan no hace más que aumentar cada año. Patria es una búsqueda poética de las raíces, de un hogar cuyo significado siempre cambia, incluso en la comprensión de los niños.
Fotografié a muchos adolescentes, niños, adultos que dejaron el país y volvieron, algunos adolescentes durante el proyecto emigraron con sus padres, otros tienen a sus padres todavía en el extranjero. Me pregunto por qué la gente se va cuando el paisaje es tan increíble aquí y cuál es el significado de Patria para mí y para los que se fueron.

“Homeland”is my personal story, as a child my parents emigrated abroad for work, and leftme to spend my time with grandparents in the picturesque and remote northernregion of Moldova. I usually identify myself with children and teenagers Iphotograph. Homeland is my main long term documentary projectthat I began in 2019 and am still working on. This project seeks out theconnections between young people from the northern Republic of Moldova andtheir surrounding scenery. I travel a lot in villages, the quiet placeinspires me and people there, their simple and natural way of life, theirconnection with land and animals, many times there I feel myself again inchildhood or teenage years, I feel a nostalgia for my past. My workitself evokes a nostalgic yearning for family, the past, and simply lifeitself. I set out on a quest to find a homeland in the faces of the people Iphotograph. One third of Moldova's population has emigrated, and the number ofyoung citizens leaving only increases each year. Homeland is apoetic quest for roots, for a home whose meaning always changes, even in theunderstanding of children.
Iphotographed a lot of teens, children, and adults who left the country and came back; some teens, during the project, emigrated with their parents, andsome havetheir parents still abroad. I am asking myself, why people are leaving when thelandscape is so incredible here and what’s the meaning of Homeland tome and for those who left.
